Sara Berkeley

Sara Berkeley was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1967 and produced her first "novel" at the age of eight. During her teens she came to the attention of Dermot Bolger, who encouraged her writing and published her early work in Introductions 3 in 1984. Educated at a convent, she went on to study German and English at Trinity College, University of Dublin. Her first collection of poetry, Penn was published in 1986 by Raven Arts Press to critical acclaim, being shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards and the Sunday Tribune Arts Awards. In 1989, Thistledown Press collaborated in the publication of a second run of Penn, simultaneously with the joint release of Sara's new collection, Home Movie Nights. The Swimmer in the Deep Blue Dream (Thistledown Press, 1992) is Sara's first book of fiction.

Home Movie Nights

ISBN: 978-0-920633-59-5

Home Movie Nights continues the rich evocation of landscape which Sara Berkely made distinctly her own in Penn, a world without frontiers and barriers that recalls "the kind of poetry written in Eastern Europe and Germany after the Second World War, poems unequalled in their delineation of, and witness to, new levels of human consciousness."
